Videogame Sales Soar
ScreenDigest and Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) announced recently its annual prediction for videogame sales in 2003. ScreenDigest, a market research firm based out of London, stated the industry is expected to grow approximately 10 percent and hit a record $18.5 billion. It was also reported that 32 million consoles will be sold this year, a two million unit increase from last year. European sales of videogames and figured to acquire over $6.3 billion.
Research director of ScreenDigest Been Keen stated, "[Videogames have] not peaked yet. It will probably peak this year in dollar value terms, reflecting pricing pressures that will kick in in the future. But in volume terms, it will continue to grow."
