Syphon Filter Omega Strain Announced
Sony Computer Entertainment America announced recently the single and multi-player online version of Syphon Filter. The latest game will be titled Syphon Filter Omega Strain and is due in Fall 2003. Developed by Sony Bend, Omega Strain is stated to as the final game in the series and will support both broadband and dial-up online services. For those who choose not to venture online, the game features a single-player mode.
The biggest surprise coming from the announcement is the fact that players will no longer play as Gabriel Logan, the main character in the previous versions of Syphon Filter. Instead, a detailed create-a-player mode has been put in place where players will create their own character and progress through levels. Over 100 weapons have been included in the game, with new items made available as players move through environments.
Sony Bend is proclaiming a very flexibly online experience that uses peer-to-peer technology, unlike SOCOM: Navy Seals, which relies on a server base. The company wants to emphasize that many aspects of the game will be enhanced through online play and won't be seen in the single-player mode. Examples of this include various options that can only be obtained with a partner.
