Electronic Arts announces Playstation 2 launch titles are on the way.
Electronic Arts, Playstation 2's biggest supporter with an unusually large number of launch titles on the way for the system, announced today that they've begun shipping the launch games for Sony's super-system. EA, as mentioned, has an amazing number of launch titles coming out for the Playstation 2, making it clearly the system's largest supporter.
Don Mattrick, president of EA Worldwide Studios, had this to say about the development, "It's the software that will define the success of Playstation 2." He added, "Madden Football and SSX snowboarding are the games that will show consumers what Playstation 2 can do. Our studios have been working for over a year to ensure that consumers have the very best software when they buy a Playstation 2. This is the strongest launch in EA's history - no developer has this many AAA titles ready for Playstation 2." Mattrick's claims reinforce the company's stance as the company to go to for marquis Playstation 2 launch titles.
The following EA titles are set to be available for release in time for PS2.
Madden NFL 2001: This is one of the most impressive football titles seen on any console, anywhere, period. The game features incredible aesthetics (utilizing 3D face mapping technology for the players, producing incredibly realistic visuals), all the latest teams and players to grace the NFL, countless extras straight from football's past, as well as the Madden license; which always seems a harbinger of quality.
SSX snowboarding: This title is particularly intriguing. The game is receiving great reviews from industry experts, and many analysts predicts this title will be the first international megahit for the Playstation 2. As the word is for most Playstation 2 titles, the aesthetics are great. SSX's gameplay combines snowboarding racing with '1080' style tricks. Watch for this one, folks.
Kessen: Kessen is the first title utilizing DVD to appear on the Playstation 2. The game is a war simulation, having the gamer control hoardes of soldiers to slam your enemies. The game is also said to be historically accurate, basing the game's warlords and feuding states on the actual state of the world in the seventeenth century.
X-Squad: With this title, EA is set to release the Playstation 2's first squad based shooter. In the game, you control an elite government anti-terrorist squad, and are sent to investigate the site of an attack. You are ordered to seize anything of interest from the attack site. Sounds interesting to me.
Swing Away Golf: If you were expecting another run-of-the-mill golf title with this one, think again. Swing Away Golf has been dubbed a 'role playing golf game.' How does this work? Players will choose from one of seven golfers with varying handicaps and skills. Each golfer has a specific caddie, and each caddie advises you in different ways depending on course layout and the experience and knowledge of the particular caddie. EA also has a veritable plethora of other titles that they plan to release by Spring of 2001. These titles include FIFA 2001, NBA Live 2001, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001, Triple Play 2002, Nascar 2001, Knockout Kings 2001, F1 Championship Season 2000, and Theme Park Roller Coaster. Electronic Arts will certainly have its hands full with this wave of titles on the way for Playstation 2 in the coming months.
