E3 2003: Midway Announces SpyHunter Movie
Midway announced today via press release that Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to develop a movie based on SpyHunter, which began life in arcades nearly two decades ago and has since seen life on a variety of different consoles, including the PlayStation 2. Universal Pictures is developing the feature with a lead actor already in mind: The Rock.
The Rock would likely be cast in the role of Alec Sects, the man behind the wheel of SpyHunter's multipurpose vehicle, the G-8155 Interceptor. Other plot details were not available at press time, but Midway has disclosed that Universal has brought in a couple of producers and two pretty well-known writers-- Michael Brandt and Derek Hass-- who penned the screenplay for "2 Fast 2 Furious", which is the sequel to the popular "The Fast and The Furious" feature film.
"SpyHunter's fast-paced action, relentless mission-based gameplay and overall cool spy theme make it a natural for the big screen," according to Helene Sheeler, Midway's vice president of marketing.
We'll keep an eye on this developing story for you, as well as fill you in on SpyHunter 2, which is currently in production at Midway.
