E3 2003: Cy Girls Hands-on Impressions

Have you ever wanted to be a badass female war goddess? I know I have, and apparently some of the folks at Konami have had similar thoughts, because theyíre bringing up Cy Girls, a super tweaked out action title starring two totally badass female warriors named Ice and Aska.

The first thing I noticed about Cy Girls was the lovely visuals. Konami certainly knows the PS2 hardware. The game, while obviously not polished, looks great. It could use some work on the aliasing, but other than that itís gorgeous. The two lead characters were very well drawn and had some really cool animations that made them stand out.

However, the one thing I took away from my time with this game was the control. Cy Girls allows you to do some truly amazing stuff, like shoot behind your back or under your armpit while running in the other direction. This allows you to pull of Matrix-esque style gameplay in a totally unique way. Of course, this is when you have the Auto Aim on. I turned that off after a while, and considered myself a winner when I didnít shoot my own character in the foot. Then I DID shoot her in the foot. The manual aim in this game is far from challenging- right now itís stupid hard. Konami either needs to beef up the difficulty on the auto aim or really work on the control scheme, because manual aiming is pretty much impossible right now.

Look for more information on Cy Girls when it becomes available.
