E3 2003: Madden 2004 Hands-on Impressions
Madden Football 2004 continues with its successful series and has tweaked the game in certain areas to add to the experience. The feel and concept of Madden 2004 is very similar to that of 2003; however the gameplay moves quicker than last yearís addition, which is an improvement to the occasional slow portions in the game. When you are in the open field it doesnít seem like youíre running in place, as it sporadically did in 2003. Tackling and other animations are very fluent and precisely controlled. The simulation feel is definitely still present and the series never feels too arcade-like.
The textures are sharper in Madden 2004 and are quite nice to look at. Granted, the graphics havenít been completely overhauled, but they certainly donít need much improvement. I was impressed with the new interface during play calling, as it provides an aspect to decipher from previous versions. However, Madden 2004 isnít an extreme jump from Madden 2003, so those who purchased last yearís title may be satisfied with waiting an extra year. Either way, the game continues to prove itself as a top contender in the sports genre, as it hasnít missed a beat with this yearís title.
