Konami will have the real deal for us in store.
Konami has recently announced that in April they will begin developing a little over 10 brand new games for the PS1 and the PS2 that should be released by April 2001. Konami's director Kazumi Kitaue quoted the following statement: "We expect total worldwide PlayStation2 sales will at least grow to the same level as the existing PlayStation console within five years." Although I feel that the PS2 will definitely have much better sales than the PS1, due to the hype that Sony is building and all the truth along with it. Konami really hopes to overtake the videogame market like it did in '98 when Metal Gear Solid blasted the charts and quickly became one of the best games ever produced.
In Japan Konami is most familiar with the excellent music based game titles that they pull out." Beat Mania", "Dance, Dance Revolution" and their newest sensation "Guitar Freaks" are the 3 games that have been raking in the doe for Konami. It's a shame though that none of these may ever make it to the US because of the price the games may carry, keep in mind that all of these games are included with a Guitar Controller, a Stepping Stage or Electric Drum Kits. If the games somehow could manipulate an average PS controller then the music titles can really succeed. But anyways, lets get on to the lineup that Konami has in store for us for the next fiscal year (from April 2000 to April 2001).
Drum Mania (Possibly a launch)
Jikkyou Pro Baseball 7
The Next Metal Gear Solid!!
Mahjong Yaroze (Yaroze?)
Jikkyou World Soccer
As for the US, Konami had recently signed a deal with ESPN to develop games under the ESPN name, so we may never see another In The Zone" title (for good). The deal means that Konami will now publish/develop Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, and Hockey games for the PS2 and maybe other next-gen systems.
