Infogrames to bring the popular Test-Drive Off-Road series to the Playstation 2.
Third party developer Infogrames recently announced that the company will be bringing their hit Test-Drive Off-Road series to Sony's Playstation 2. The game is already in progress for Sony's 128-bit system, and reportedly features high-end visuals and superior driving mechanics than the last installment of the series. The title of the latest incarnation is Test-Drive Off-Road Wide Open. The company also says that Test-Drive Off-Road Wide Open will boast sixteen licensed vehicles and enormous environments in which to wreak havoc.
The game's tracks are located in Moab, Utah; Yosimete, California; and of course, no off-roading game would be complete without a romp through the big island of Hawaii. According to the company, these locales were selected for their natural diversity, as well as the fact that these areas are all home to official events. The game apparently features eight to ten tracks per locale. The title's vehicles include the AM General Humvee, the AM General Hummer, the Jeep Wrangler, the Ford F-150, the Ford Bronco, the Dodge RAM 2500, and the Dodge Shelby Durango.
Chris Downend, the director of product development for racing titles at Infogrames, had this comment about the development, "With the technical advancements allowed by the Playstation 2, this new addition to the Test-Drive Off-Road will go beyond what any off-road game has accomplished before." He added, "Players will have room to roam in the 'go anywhere' environment. Racing freely through expansive real-world locations that are graphically magnificent and true to life in some of the world's most desirable off-road vehicles will make this one of the first must-have racing games for the Playstation 2." This is definitely one to watch for all you Test-Drive fans out there.
