E3 2003: Bloody Roar Extreme: Hands-on impressions
The newest Bloody Roar game was on display at Konamiís booth, and while waiting for them to show the Snake Eater trailer again, I gave this game a go. Iíve never been much into the Bloody Roar series, and Extreme didnít do anything to change my mind when I checked it out.
The game looked pretty nice, with no noticeable graphics flaws, and it had a nice smooth frame rate, something that is always important in fighting games. The alternate forms that the fighters could take also looked really nice, if not sometimes insanely weird.
The gameplay was fast paced, but nothing there really was nothing too stellar about the gameplay. You could switch to your alternate form at any time with the touch of a button, and while not using it, any damage received was slowly replaced. Since your alternate form is much stronger than your regular form, I was forced to balance out when to use whom, and it was somewhat interesting.
All in all, Bloody Roar Extreme looks good and plays nicely, but it was still lacking that almost intangible something that makes a good fighter a truly great fighter.
