E3 2003: Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando Hands-on Impressions
I admit that I was rather shocked to see Ratchet and Clank announced to return on the PS2 with a sequel just 6 months after the release of the original. Apparently, Going Commando has been in development for quite some time, and has been planned before the original even came out. That said, when taking the game out for a spin, I felt right at home, for the most part. The game plays and looks pretty much the same as the first did, but the number of new additions really made Going Commando feel like a new experience.
This time around, weapons can be upgraded as you progress throughout the adventure. Not only that, but there are just over 50 weapons available in the game. In addition to the weapons, there will be 20 different stages to explore, as well. Lastly, Insomniac has included a new feature called "maxi-games". When you play a maxi-game, you will gain experience points for not only weapons, but Ratchet's health bar, too. It's clear that Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando just isn't another platform title, as the amount of depth being put into the game is truly impressive. From what I played, Going Commando was just as much fun as the previous was.
