Grand Theft Auto May Eventually Hit the Xbox
Take-Two announced today at its quarterly earnings conference details on upcoming games from its various labels, including Rockstar, Gathering of Developers, and Gotham Games. It was revealed by Take-Two CEO Jeff Lapin that Rockstar will release "a significant Xbox [game]" in Q1 2004. Lapin stated the company would not comment on whether it involved a Grand Theft Auto game, but said that the exclusivity deal between Sony and Rockstar has been amended. However, the upcoming GTA title was confirmed as an exclusive game for the Playstation 2 and is expected for release in the second half of 2004, so we will have to wait and see if Microsoft will see the franchise eventually arrive on its console.
Jeff Lapin went on to say that around 90 projects are in development or in the planning stages at Take-Two Interactive. It was noted that 25 of those games will be published under Rockstar, 40 under Gathering of Developers, and 25 under Gotham Games. Also, it was confirmed that Duke Nukem Forever will not ship this year. "We wrote it down last quarter substantially, so we've generally already pulled the plug," Lapin said. "We’re hopeful that the team in Dallas will finish the project."
PSX Extreme will keep you posted on any more information concerning the Grand Theft Auto franchise or Take-Two.
