Watch Out for the Pigeons
Usually when you see a flock of pigeons, you hope that they're not flying above you. Apparently when Acclaim sees this same flock of pigeons, it sees potential advertising. Acclaim Entertainment announced today that it plans to use homing pigeons in an upcoming advertising stunt to promote Virtua Tennis 2. The pigeons will sport logos of the game on each wing with a harmless water-based paint (obviously the company used up all the harmful paint huffing it in its private garage). Around 20 pigeons have been trained to fly in and out of this year's Wimbledon tournament, running from June 23 through July 6.
"The Virtua Tennis 2 pigeon marketing campaign is highly targeted, as it brings awareness of the game directly to tennis enthusiasts," said Larry Sparks, VP of marketing international at Acclaim. "The Wimbledon tournament is famous for the occasional descent by pigeons onto center court, but our advertising pigeons are trained to go straight for the fans and flap their logos in front of them."
Virtua Tennis 2 was released last November in the UK, as the North American version is known as Sega Sports Tennis.
