Enter the Matrix Hits 2.5 Million Sold
Atari announced today that Enter the Matrix has exceeded 2.5 million units sold worldwide. The game was released a little over a month ago and is now Atari's fastest-selling game in history. However, it's still questionable whether or not Atari has made a profit from Enter the Matrix, as 4 million copies were shipped on its release. Either way, it is still quite an accomplishment, considering Atari's infamous background, including its symbolic downfall with E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.
"Having a hit title right out of the box is enormously gratifying, but seeing the steady worldwide demand for Enter the Matrix is even more compelling," said Bruno Bonnell, chairman and CEO of Atari. "We have a long history of multimillion selling games, and our experience tells us that titles with this level of sales success typically have a long shelf life. From what we have seen to date, Enter the Matrix is right on course."
