Commandos is coming to next-generation platforms.
The World War II tactical action simulation Commandos was one of the most popular games from Eidos on PC. Now, it has recently been confirmed that a sequel will be hitting Playstation 2 and Dreamcast. The series is very popular, challenging, and even critically acclaimed, and it should be very interesting to see what changes Eidos and Pyro Studios make to the series with the new technology of the 128-bit systems. The announcement was really no surprise, but now that it's been made official, Eidos and Pyro hope that their series will truly be elevated by the much-improved visuals and gameplay possibilities over previous installments of the series. The title was previously indicated solely on PC.
Mike McGarvey, the COO of Eidos, said, "Console owners the world over will now be able to experience the compelling gameplay and stunning graphics of Commandos 2."
Ignacio Perez, the CEO of Pyro Studios, added this on the announcement, "We are delighted to be developing Commandos 2 for these new platforms. The game is ideally suited to next-generation technology and we look forward to bringing Commandos 2 to a wider audience."
The original title in this franchise was innovative, challenging and bordering on classic (despite a few minor bugs) on the PC. The concept of the sequel to the series on the most technically advanced hardware ever developed is sure to make fans of the genre salivate with anticipation. I for one can't wait to once again become hooked on the compelling action on the latest installment of this series.
