Namco Secures Rights to Snake Plissken

Namco announced today that it has secured the rights to the action-hero character Snake Plissken. Played by Kurt Russell, the actor will also provide his voice and will directly work with Namco in developing and publishing the game. Known from the movies Escape From New York and Escape From LA, the rights to Snake Plissken are owned by director John Carpenter, producer Debra Hill, and actor Kurt Russell; both Carpenter and Hill will also be working together in creating the title.

"Working with both the original team from Escape and the developers at Namco allows Kurt, Debra, and me to reach a whole new generation of Snake fans and still be true to the original movie," said John Carpenter.

Details on the game are slim, except for the title will take place in a post-apocalyptic universe and characters must use their fists, firearms, stealth, and brains to survive. The first Snake Plissken game is expected for a Christmas 2005 release.
