THQ's much-anticipated RPG Summoner ships.
Summoner, published by THQ, has already been shipped. This title is one of the most touted of the Playstation 2's launch. Summoner is being developed by Volition, and is being heavily marketed by Sony as well as the game's publisher because of its great importance to the success of the Playstation 2's launch.
"Summoner marks one of the few, totally original titles that will hit store shelves day and date with the new Playstation 2 hardware," said Alison Locke, the executive vice president of North American publishing for THQ. Locke added, "We are excited to be competing strongly at the launch of the new system."
Mike Kulas, the president of Volition, had this to say about the development, "Our goal for Summoner is to redefine the role-playing genre with deep gameplay, brilliant graphics and the unique ability to control summoned creatures. The Playstation 2's enhanced 3D gaming engine has allowed us to deliver the first truly cinematic role-playing game of any console system." Whether this cinematic RPG plan is preferable or not is subject to debate, but there's no question that THQ is shooting very high with this title, and it's not looking like Summoner will disappoint RPG fans.
