Majesco announces support for PlayStation 2.
Third party developer Majesco has recently signed an agreement making official their plans to publish PlayStation 2 titles. Majesco's own development team Pipe Dreams currently has two games in progress for Sony's new system. According to Majesco, the first of these two titles will be announced in the next few weeks, while the company plans to shed light on the second in about two months. Majesco has not revealed official release dates for either of these upcoming titles, but some sources predict the first of these two games will be complete around August of 2001.
"We are excited to partner with Sony Computer Entertainment America in publishing games for its heralded PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system," commented Jesse Sutton, the president of Majesco. He elaborated, "Combined with our growing in-house development studio and strong distribution channel, our publishing agreement is an important step in becoming a significant player in the interactive entertainment category." Certainly encouraging words from the president, and Majesco has reason to have high hopes for their first PlayStation 2 titles to be sure, given the system's processing power.
The company's most notable work is incontestably Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Adding to this, Pipe Dreams is almost finished with Rogue Spear for the Dreamcast, the latest member of the Rainbow Six family. Pipe Dreams also has license to develop titles on the PlayStation 2 with the use of cartoon characters by Fineline Productions. All things considered, things aren't looking too shabby for Majesco's immediate future.
