According to the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), the United Kingdom videogame market grew to a record high in 2003. The organization said that sales of “leisure software products” reached £1.26 billion (approximately $2.3 billion U.S.) in 2003, an increase of 7.1 percent over 2002 results. ELSPA added that hardware console sales remained “steady” during 2003 at four million units.
Electronic Arts was singled out for contributing 14 titles to the list of top 40 selling videogames for the full year, with five in the top 10 alone. FIFA 2004 was the number one selling title of 2003.
Total sales for 2003, which will include hardware dollar figures, are still being compiled by ELSPA.
