How Much Do Game Makers Make?

Game Developer magazine has released a few results from its annual salary survey of game creators in the interactive entertainment industry. Results showed programmers with less than two years of experience earning an average of between $58,000 and $74,000 per year, while entry level positions in art and animation, game design, audio engineering and production disciplines start at around $40,000 to $45,000 per year. After six years of toiling, the average programming position paid between $85,000 and $110,000 per year, while executive producers at the same point in their career earned an average of $123,000 annually.

The study added that “most” industry employees received some form of additional compensation, which averaged $16,769. Results also showed the highest percentage of women in the industry, 9.3 percent, work as artists or animators, with only 3.0 percent of female respondents in the programming field.
