EA's PlayStation 2 NASCAR title has shipped.
Electronic Arts continues to churn out support for the PlayStation 2, as the company has recently shipped NASCAR 2001. The new racing title from the world's largest third party developer boasts 12 licensed NASCAR tracks, and also includes the Daytona International Speedway, which is a fresh addition. NASCAR 2001 also features an impressive roster of drivers from the sport of NASCAR, including Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Jeff Burton, Jeremy Mayfield, Rusty Wallace, Ricky Rudd, John Andretti, Kyle Petty, as well as Darrell Waltrip. The title features 34 drivers total.
"This isn't just the best NASCAR game we have ever made," commented David Demartini, executive producer in charge of NASCAR production. He continued, "NASCAR 2001 for the PlayStation 2 is positioned to be the best racing game for the platform. We are excited to bring in fans from all racing genres to enjoy a great racing experience, NASCAR style."
Each of the 19 racers are set to have independent AI, making the drivers more intelligent and responsive to the gamer's actions. EA hopes this will add a deeper level to the title.
