Sony Does The Olympics

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced a deal with the International Olympic Committee to release an Olympic-themed videogame. Athens 2004 is due out in July and has been christened as The Official Videogame of the Olympic Games, and in fact, will be the only console product licensed by the IOC.

The PlayStation 2 title will serve up seven venues from the Athens Games—the Olympic Stadium for Athletics, the Markopoulo Olympic Shooting Centre, the Olympic Aquatic Centre, the Nikaia Olympic Weightlifting Hall, the Olympic Indoor Hall for Gymnastics, the Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre and the Panathinaiko Stadium for Archery.

Gamers will be able to compete in events from the following Olympic sports: aquatics, track and field, gymnastics, archery, equestrian, shooting and weightlifting. Eurocom is developing the title, in “close cooperation with ISM and the Organizing Committee of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.”
