Samsung and Sharp supplying PSP screens?
A recent report from Bloomberg suggests that Samsung Electronics and Sharp will be supplying the screens for the upcoming Sony PSP. The screens are reported to be between four and five inches diagonally. This is not the first time Samsung has been implicated in the manufacturing of the PSP. Back in January, Samsung hinted that it was involved in a large order of small sized LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens.
Sharp currently produces all of the LCDs for the Nintendo Game Boy line, and will be supplying the displays for the upcoming Nintendo DS.
Sony obviously has high expectations for PSP sales. There is speculation that Sharp will not be able to produce enough screens in time, hence the additional contract with Samsung.
The Sony PSP is scheduled to be shown at the industry trade show E3, with a Japanese release set for late this year. A North American and European release is expected in Spring 2005.
