Paper-based Blu-ray Discs Developed

  Japanese-based Toppan Printing and Sony have developed a new method of creating Blu-ray Discs, involving the use of paper a substrate. The substrate, or the top of the disc, is generally made of plastic. The use of paper reduces the weight of the disc, results in more enviromentially friendly production, and allows cheaper Blu-ray Discs. It is speculated that the paper-based Blu-ray Discs will be primarily used in disposable markets, such as magazine pack-ins and demo discs.
