Electronic Arts UK today announced Battlefield: Modern Combat, a console entry in the massively successful Battlefield franchise. A Playstation 2 exclusive, the first person shooter will feature over 30 vehicles and 70 weapons set in modern times. While not graphically impressive, the Battlefield series has always been known for its multiplayer experience, and the Playstation 2 version looks to continue this tradition. The online component of Battlefield: Modern Combat will support up to 24 players per room, with voice communication via USB headset. In-game ranking will be used to reward skilled players in the persistent online world, in which players will be able to fight for the United States, the Chinese, or the Middle East Coalition.
Battlefield: Modern Combat is current in development by Digital Illusions, and is scheduled for a late 2004 release.
