E3 2004: PSP Support and Launch Dates

At their press conference today, Sony announced that nearly 100 developers and publishers from all around the world are on-board with development for the PSP. Utilizing an all new medium called UMD (Universal Media Disc), the PSP is scheduled for a Japanese launch around the holiday season. An North American and European/PAL launch is planned to happen before March 30th, 2005. And launches for remaining regions will follow shortly.

As it stands at the moment, 34 Japanese developers and publishers will be supporting the PSP. 24 are North American. 31 are European/PAL. And 10 are Korean. You can expect the biggest names to make their appearances on the PSP. EA says they will have a minimum of four games at launch all of which are currently in development, including: NFL Street, NBA Street, Tiger Woods PGA Golf Tour, and Need for Speed: Underground. Konami will be developing a Metal Gear Solid game for the PSP based on the trailer that showed off a montage of games in development for the PSP. Sony is working on a Gran Turismo game for the PSP, among other titles, one of which includes Twisted Metal.
