Over 100 Million Served

Sony announced on Tuesday that the original PlayStation, redubbed PSOne in 2000, has now sold over 100 million units worldwide. The original NES, on the other hand, sold a measely 62 million units - and everyone you knew had one of those. This doesn't even take into account the fact that PlayStation 2 is backwards compatible. If one did, you'd end up with over 160 million units capable of playing PSOne titles in the world. For the record, Sony claims that there have been over 7,300 of those PSOne games have been published.

In case you're curious, the breakdown looks like this:
  • North America - 40 million units
  • Europe - 40 Million units
  • Japan - 20 Million units
So yes, you could easily say that the PlayStation has been a record-breaking success. Congratulations Sony, you've made it cool to be a gamer; something we could never do 10 years ago.

Fantastic! Can't wait to get it!
Good, not sure if I'll buy immediately.
Eh, not bad, but I don't care.
It's just a stupid money grab.
