Squaresoft releases some information on the next two Final Fantasies.
Square representatives revealed in Tokyo some of their plans for the next two installments in the classic RPG series, Final Fantasy. First of all, according to the representatives, Square has unofficially supported the company's plans to drop the much-anticipated Final Fantasy X by March 31st in Japan. The PlayStation 2 title, despite the optimism surrounding it, will not feature online gameplay until autumn of 2001, which has been blamed on continuing development of the network. However, Square, always confident in their flagship Final Fantasy series, has projected sales of 2 million-plus.
As for Final Fantasy XI, that title has been officially rescheduled to drop in spring of 2002. The reschedule is due to a winter testing period that Square is planning for FFXI, even though the game will actually be completed by the end of the year. Be it a revolution in RPG gameplay or a harbinger of its destruction, Final Fantasy XI will be the first RPG from Square to be entirely online.
