US Playstation 2 will be shipped without hard drive.
On April 15th, news went through the gaming industry that Sony announced to launch the Playstation 2 system in US packaged along with a modem and a hard drive. Today, one of the officials denied the fact that a hard rive will be included but didn't mention anything about the modem.
No one knows how the rumor about the hard drive originated. It didn't sound like a very realistic idea in the first place because that would increase the price of the system substantially and the company knows that the US gaming market is different from Japan's where our gamers wouldn't go spending their life savings on a gaming system. In addition, there is no point of releasing the system bundled with a hard drive since there is no usability for it yet.
We will keep you updated on what will and will not be included with the system at the US launch that is expected to happen by the year end.
