Ubisoft Announces New Ape Escape

Good news for fans of good games--Ubisoft has announced that it will release the third installment in the Ape Escape series this October.

The last two Ape Escape games were traditional 3D action games. Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed, as it's being called, is setup as a tournament-style sports marathon. Spike, Natalie, Casi, and the Professor are back, and this time they've decided to enter a high tech sports tournament. Set in a computer-generated world, odd things start happening when mysterious monkeys start to appear, along with archenemy Specter from Ape Escape 2.

Game features include:

  • Two Game Modes: 44 level Story mode and a 4-player versus mode with 21 pre-made tournaments.
  • Players can design their own custom tournaments by picking and choosing 28 unique stages.
  • Each character will have their own set of unique gadgets, including the Stunclub, Dragonfly, Slingshot, RC Car, Dash Hoop and WaterMech.
  • More than 400 Unlockable Items: Special gadgets, clothes, fan emails, special summon abilities, and movies.

"Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed is an irreverent, sports-oriented fighting game that continues the fun and excitement of the popular Ape Escape series," said James Regan, Director of Business Development for Ubisoft. "Following the success of Ape Escape 2, Ape Escape: Pumped & Primed is sure to continue the legacy and entertainment of those crazy simians!"

Frankly, we don't know what to think, but the previous Ape Escape games were pretty darn good--so we have high hopes for this one.
