New PS2 model hits Japan with success.
Well as a huge surprise that just came out of nowhere, Sony has released their SCPH-18000 model of the Playstation 2 in Japan. The surprise is being the fact that thousands of people showed up to their neighborhood retail stores creating lines just to pick up this new PS2 which features a DVD controller and like the US PS2 the DVD-driver is already built into the system's hardware. But there is a negative to this new PS2, and that is being that the memory card has been taken out of the package, so you are left to buy one separately now. With the removal of the memory card, I myself am still really surprised with the turn out, and I'm sure many of you are too. The new model still retails for 39,800 Yen, so the price has not been changed. I am hoping that Sony releases numbers of how many SCPH-18000 models were sold over the weekend, since it looks like the demand for it is high.
