Full Spectrum Warrior Coming to PS2

Anyone that attended E3 2002 or 2003 was blown away by THQ's Full Spectrum Warrior, a squad-based FPS game, similar to Battlefield 1942, that lets players form teams, shoot it out between one another in the jungle, and control some pretty deadly vehicles. After it was released for the Xbox and PC, the game enjoyed modest success.

Now, THQ is looking to make some real money off this thing. The company announced today that a PlayStation 2 conversion of Full Spectrum Warrior is in development, and should ship sometime early in 2005. The game is being developed by Mass Media, in association with original developer Pandemic Studios.

Based on a light-infantry training simulator designed by Pandemic Studios for the U.S. Army, Full Spectrum Warrior combines squad-based combat and real-time tactical-action. To accomplish its unique level of authenticity, the game incorporates some of the most sophisticated A.I. ever achieved in a video game. As a Squad Leader, players command and coordinate the actions of two infantry fire teams maneuvering through an urban warzone. An intuitive control system allows players to lead eight soldiers in a real-time struggle to outthink, outmaneuver and outgun the enemy through 13 levels of intense combat.

"Full Spectrum Warrior is a pioneer of today's trend of developing authentic military games based on genuine military doctrine and advanced A.I.," said David Todd, president and CEO of Mass Media. "We're very proud to be associated with the brand and have an opportunity to bring this truly innovative and immersive game play to the PlayStation 2."
