Light shed on SCEI's Extermination.

SCEI has granted specifics regarding its upcoming PlayStation 2 title Extermination. According to the company, the game's plot is to begin on December 5 of 2005. The title is set in a military installation in the South Pole where a state of emergency is eventually declared. A reconnaissance team is then dispatched by the United States government to further investigate the disturbance. Soon after, a freak accident involving the explosion of the military transport kills the majority of the government team, sparing only two: Dennis Riley and Roger Grigman. The action commences when the aforementioned pair sneaks into the facility's ventilation system.

Extermination's gameplay is, according to the title's developers, very action-oriented. The title's fast-paced action is to replace the plodding style of Resident Evil (in which the developers' experience is set). While the title is to boast some startling moments in typical R.E. fashion, the gameplay is to challenge the gamer with a large number of enemies onscreen at any given time. The title's control scheme is to innovate as well. The developers have dubbed the scheme the regional action system, in which, depending on the situation, the game player can perform different actions using the same controls.

Although an American release date has not yet been cited, the title will drop in Japan on March 8.
