Speculation concerning unannounced Square software.
Squaresoft recently released a statement informing the gaming community that 12 new videogames were under development from the storied company. Of those twelve, however, only seven have been officially revealed. For the PlayStation 2, the company has Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XII, the untitled Disney RPG, and Gekikuukan Pro Baseball 2001 waiting in the wings. For other platforms, the company is working on Wild Cards (WonderSwan Color) and the upcoming Final Fantasy handheld game. The tantalizing omission of five titles has opened the door for frenzied speculation, as gamers are left to ponder the nature of the secrecy from the industry's most reputable developer.
Quelling the flames of uncertainty, Square recently released a company report confirming the genres of the unannounced titles. Of the remaining five, Square plans to develop two sports games, one online strategy simulation, one RPG for a handheld platform, and one online RPG to grace the PlayStation 2. While no specifics have been granted, Square plans to impart further information in the coming months.
