PS2 North American installed base hits 1.46 million.
Sony Computer Entertainment announced yesterday that 1.46 million PlayStation 2 units had been shipped to the North American continent by year 2000's close. This means that, despite the incessant shipping and software problems that have plagued Sony since the PS2 launch, the company is 160,000 units ahead of its goal of 1.3 million by the end of the year.
The launch problems notwithstanding, the PlayStation 2 is now ahead of holiday forecasts projected by Sony earlier in 2000 (since Sony promised 1.3 million units on the market by the year's end). Perhaps Sony has finally remedied its insidious scourge of shipping woes once and for all.
