Sony And Namco Bandai Create Cellius

Sony and Namco Bandai have been working together for quite some time, but now, they've decided to take that relationship to a whole other level. They've decided to form a brand new company designed to develop games for the PS3, PC, and mobile phones. This business endeavor, entitled "Cellius," will produce content designed around the Cell processor, which of course is the power hub of the PS3.

As Games Industry reported today, the two corporations will have joint custody of Cellius (Namco Bandai owns 51%). To date, Namco Bandai has managed to provide Sony platform owners with multiple popular franchises, including Tekken, Ace Combat, and Ridge Racer. In fact, Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire were the best-selling PS3 launch games in Japan.

What's perhaps even more intriguing is the very nature of this business venture. Could this mean Sony is attempting to become involved in PCs and mobile phones so as to directly challenge Microsoft and Apple in the greatly expanding realm of digital entertainment...? Only time will tell.
