Omron confirms PS2 USB modem.
On Monday, Japanese electronics developer Omron confirmed plans to release a new USB modem, dubbed the Viaggio ME56PS2, for Sony's 128-bit PlayStation 2. The device will be K56Flex/V.90 compatible, boasting speeds up to 56Kbps. The product is slated for a Japanese release of March 29. When the modem launches, a PS2 web browser will be included, allowing for website and email access.
Age of Empires II and Taito's Battle Gear 2 will take full advantage of the upcoming modem, as each title is to support Internet battles. This promising fact notwithstanding, the number of supported players in the multiplayer games has not yet been announced. A multitude of Japanese companies has jumped on board to provide support for the awaited product, including So-Net, Nifty, ODN, Biglobe, Dion, DTI, Dream Net, Panasonic Hi-Ho, Asashi Net, Master Net, JustNet, People, and OCN Dial Access.
