Playstation 2 price cut rumored.
According to rumors circulating in Tokyo, Japan, it seems that Sony will soon be announcing a price cut on the Japanese hardware of the PS2. While Sony has made no official comment on all of this, it is pretty much a no brainer, seeing as how the GameCube and GameBoy Advance will be released around June/July, Sony has no choice but to lower the PS2s price to a competitive pin-point. Word is that 10,000 yen is the believed drop, which is an equivalence of $86, so I guess it would be safe to say that a US price drop would be between $75 to $100.
SCEI director Kenichi Fukunaga said, "Certainly we plan to oppose the Xbox, but we're not targeting any other platforms. Beneath the surface, a war of words has already begun [between Microsoft and Sony]. Some people believe the Xbox is more powerful, but we're not using computer-based components. I'm confident they won't be able to match the level of expression of our exclusive semiconductors."
