E3 2007: Moto GP 07 Impressions
With Capcom picking up the Moto GP license and becoming the exclusive publisher of the franchise on the PS2, I wasn't really sure what to expect from that. I enjoyed both THQ's and Namco's Moto GP efforts quite a bit, but I can't say the same about Capcom's title. Picking up the controller, I couldn't help but dislike the controls. They weren't very responsive, and the bikes lacked a feel of agility.
With the wonky controls came a lack of fun, as cornering just didn't click with me. Likewise, the graphics are pretty dated, even by the PlayStation 2's standards. Nothing about the game seemed to have any care or polish, as Moto GP 07 came off playing thrown together. Incomplete build or not, Capcom would have to drastically overhaul the game in order for it to contend with the likes of Tourist Trophy.
The final straw for me was when I realized just how poorly done Laguna Seca was. The corkscrew wasn't nearly tight enough, and the road was too wide. Capcom shouldn't have really bothered spending time on a PS2 Moto GP, as it would have been very nice to see a moto game done for the PS3 instead.
