PS2 News: Manhunt 2 Nets "M" Rating, Cleared For Release

Manhunt 2 Nets "M" Rating, Cleared For Release

According to MCVUK, the time for sadistic horror action is nigh for U.S. gamers: Rockstar's controversial Manhunt 2 has been cleared for release in the States.

After being forced into the editing room when the ESRB slapped the title with the deadly "AO" (Adults Only) rating, Rockstar has produced a game fit for the less offensive "M" (Mature) rating. This means that its targeted consoles - PS2, PSP, and Wii - will finally allow the game, which in turn means Manhunt 2 officially has the green light. Of course, it's likely to annoy anti-game activists, but hey, the ESRB says the revisions are worthy of that lower rating.

"Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience," said founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games Sam Houser. "We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it."

With the ESRB out of the way, Rockstar's next hurdle is the UK's BBFC, which has refused to classify the earlier AO version of the game. But now, perhaps they will, which would allow Manhunt 2 to release across the pond as well. We'll keep you updated on that, and for now, be prepared to give this psychotic adventure a shot come October.
