Sony Announces Price and Bundle of White PS2

  October 26th, 2000 marked one of the most important days in gaming history, as the PlayStation 2 saw its release here in the United States. After selling nearly 1 million units for its Japanese launch in March 2000, the US release was met with insane demand, which started with 500,000 units sold on day one, and shortages to follow. Today, the PlayStation 2 has amounted over 120 million units sold - and it is the best selling console of all time, and will likely remain so for a long time.

   "While today's anniversary celebrates PlayStation 2's past, we're very excited for its future," said Jack Tretton, President and Chief Executive Officer for SCEA. "We look forward to the platform's continued growth and expect to sell approximately 12 million units worldwide by the end of March, leading us to anticipate that PlayStation 2's lifecycle will exceed that of the original PlayStation(R). Never before has an in-home game system experienced this type of worldwide success on such a long-lasting scale."

   To celebrate the seven year anniversary, Sony will be releasing a Ceramic White PlayStation 2 which will come bundled with SingStar Pop and two USB microphones for the game. The bundle will arrive at the beggining of November and will retail for $149.99 US/CAD.
