Capcom Reemphasizes Focus On Multiplatform Development
In more Capcom news today - and this probably won't come as any surprise to anyone who follows industry news - it appears the publisher is firmly focused on producing multiplatform titles in the future. No more of this favoring the 360 while the PS3 gains ground; that ground has been gained, Capcom wants to continue to tap the Western markets, and all platforms are now in their cross-hairs.
According to ShackNews, at its annual shareholders meeting, Capcom first reemphasized its commitment to the multiplatform plan. Here are some of the comments that people are currently discussing:
"As a measure to counter the soaring costs of software development for the next-generation consoles, which has been a cause for concern, we have shifted our focus to the multiplatform strategy. ...all major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multiplatform games."
Now that we've got this out of the way, the next big question looms: will Capcom simply create their games simultaneously on the PS3 and 360, or will they lead with one platform and port to the other? As time goes on, we have to figure it'd be the former, simply because most developers have become more comfortable with the intricate PS3 hardware. We figure the days of piss-poor ports are in the past, and even if the third-party exclusive is dead (which it seems to be), we don't care so much if all platforms get same-quality efforts of a certain game. Wouldn't you agree?
