WWF Smackdown 3 confirmed for PS2!

Today THQ made it official, they have announced plans for WWF Smackdown 3 to be released on the Playstation 2 a little later this year. As we all know, Smackdown games have been exclusive to Sony's systems, but other WWF games still appear on consoles such as the XBox, though if history has taught us anything, none will really stand up to Smackdown's potential. It is great to see Yukes appearing back to develop this PS2 version of Smackdown, I am already looking forward to a wonderful wrestling game courtesy THQ and Yukes. Here are some features expected to appear in Smackdown 3: an astounding amount of matches, 78 in total! More than 1,000 different moves and 35 WWF superstars, including: HHH, Stone Cold: Steve Austin, X-Pac, The Undertaker, Kain, Chyna, Road Dogg and The Rock. Additional extras will be the ability to distract the referee while your partner performs illegal moves, or beating the snot out of your tag-team partner because he ruined the match.

"Having sold well over 4 million World Wrestling Federation video games to date on multiple platforms, the progression to the PlayStation 2 will thrill our fans," said Alison Locke, executive vice president of North American publishing for THQ. "We can't wait to show off the look and feel of the World Wrestling Federation franchise on a system as powerful as the PlayStation 2."

To date under THQ's rule, WWF videogames have sold over 4 million copies on various platforms, GameBoy, Dreamcast, Playstation and Nintendo 64. Smackdown 3 will be released sometime around November, and Yukes will also be implementing commentary, which is a first for any Smackdown title. We will try to gather up a little preview for all of you out there as soon as possible.
