Guitar Hero: World Tour And Rock Band 2 Sales Battle

From the start of 2008, we knew one of the year's biggest battles would be between Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2, although we figured there'd be no real "loser" in this war. And as it turns out, one has taken the early lead so far, but both are doing pretty damn well.

According to GameSpot, it's World Tour that - perhaps unsurprisingly - dominates the sales charts with over 534,000 units sold in the U.S. in October. The newest installment in the super popular franchise sold 191,049 on the Xbox 360, 182,845 on the Wii, 96,657 on the PlayStation 3, and 63,462 on the PS2. Activision has a monster of a series here, and they know it; World Tour generated $67.3 million thanks to these sales, and we're just getting started. In comparison, Rock Band 2 tallied 238,128 units, but with a much more even split across both available platforms: 119,569 copies of the 360 version and 118,559 of the PS3 version. The highly anticipated and critically acclaimed sequel generated $26.7 million in the month of October, and remember, the Wii and PS2 versions aren't out until next month, so that's going to make the competition closer.

As for the dark horse, the competitor who dared to take on the two Goliaths and emerge victorious like David...things aren't looking so hot. Konami's Rock Revolution only sold a mere 3,000 units last month, although the Wii version didn't come out until last week, so that may help the number a lot when we see November's results. Even so, all early indications are that most all music aficionados are making a tough choice between Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2, and they're just saying, "...Rock Revo-what?"
