Atari Blowout: New Baldur's Gate, Ghostbusters, The Witcher, More

Rumors are fun, but official confirmations are vastly preferable. Atari president Phil Harrison and Infogrames CEO David Gardner have lifted the lid on all sorts of upcoming projects, including Ghostbusters, The Witcher: Rise of the Wolf, and the return of Baldur's Gate.

According to GameSpot, the information came from the two executives announcing the new titles at London's O2 Arena. They spoke about their new partnership with Namco Bandai and revealed a new trailer for Tekken 6, saying the hotly anticipated fighter will arrive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in fall 2009. Even more interesting were some of the comments revolving around some of Atari's internal brands, like the Dungeons & Dragons franchises Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate. We're not really sure who will develop the new entries - Obsidian Entertainment, who developed NN2, declined to comment - but we know they're coming. At the same time, Atari hinted at new installments in the Test Drive Unlimited, Backyard Sports and V-Rally series.

Moving on, Atari did come forward and confirm the console adaptation of The Witcher, also known as Rise of the Wolf. We just told you about the very real possibility of this title's existence, and here's the official announcement. It's coming to the PS3 and 360 in fall 2009, and there was further confirmation for The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. We just got finished telling you it would be a sequel, and that still rings true. Lastly, Ghostbusters finally has a tentative release date of June 2009; it will coincide with the classic movie's 25th anniversary and be available for the PS3, 360, PS2, Wii, DS and PC. 'whew' A whole lot of games, and with this new update, we can finally stop speculating. Let's just hope a lot of these deliver, and we really want info on that new Baldur's Gate!
