Final Fantasy XII Sequel, Fortress, Briefly Resurfaces
Not long ago, Square-Enix said they wouldn't be adverse to outside studios working on a Final Fantasy title. This fell in line with the idea that GRIN was working on a supposed sequel to Final Fantasy XII.
If you hadn't heard, this Swedish studio (responsible for last year's ill-fated Bionic Commando) was apparently working on a game called FORTRESS, which is supposed to be a follow-up to the PS2 RPG classic that wowed the world some time ago. However, GRIN was forced to close their doors towards the end of 2009, which is why most assumed FORTRESS went down with the ship. However, as reported by ScrawlFX, a new video has surfaced showing that the game is still in existence, evidently in the hands of another developer. However, don't bother trying to play the video there; if it worked, we would've posted it right here for you. Unfortunately, it says that due to a copyright issue, Square-Enix has yanked it...so no go. But we can tell you this FFXII sequel is more of an action-based game - perhaps not even an RPG - even though it still takes place in the Ivalice realm. The mere fact that such footage even found the light of day is intriguing enough for now...perhaps we'll hear more about FORTRESS soon.
In the meantime, you can ponder what FFXII-2 might've been like if S-E had decided to make the game themselves and keep it a true-blue RPG. I know a lot of you didn't like FFX-2 but that game was awesome so you can all go pound sand. ;)
