Metal Gear Solid Movie Stalls, Revival Remains Possible
Now that the "Prince of Persia" movie has released, and we know the likes of a new "Hitman" is on the way, we're all starting to wonder: whatever happened to that "Metal Gear Solid" film?
Well, the MTV Movies Blog had a chance to ask the voice of Snake himself for an update. David Hayter was rumored to have been tapped to help write the screenplay for the movie adaptation, and in fact, he admits to being asked. He said in reply that he "can say without contradiction that I know it better than any screenwriter on the planet." So at that point, they submitted a script and things started moving along. But since then, updates have stopped and Hayter says the deal isn't done yet:
"...I don’t believe they were ever able to successfully close a deal between Mr. Kojima and Sony. This is all just stuff I’ve heard."
Hayter says he did "come up with a pitch for the movie which I thought was pretty cool and I would still love to do." But as of right now, there are "far larger issues" at hand, and one of them is determining the level of involvement series creator Hideo Kojima will have. Right now, nothing seems to be happening but Hayter believes the concept could be revived:
"I really want to spring some things on people. Having been intimately involved with ‘Metal Gear,’ I would like to give people a story that will grab the fans. The fans will know the context that we’re talking about once they see the trailers. They’ll say ‘Oh my god, they’re going there.’ But they won’t quite know how the story is going to unfold or what some of the big surprises are going to be. And that’s really the only way to keep a movie [adaptation] interesting."
