Lucas gets sued by 3DO.
A week ago we neglected to report a lawsuit filed against LucasArts by 3DO two weeks ago. This lawsuit which was made public during the middle of last week is over 3DO's Star Fighter franchise and of course Lucas Arts Star Wars: Starfighter game. The lawsuit was filed in regards to there being possible confusion between 3DO's Star Fighter videogames, and LucasArts' Star Wars: Starfighter game. ZDNET's Gamespot was able to get some words from LucasArts' Director in Public Relations, Tom Sarris:
"The term Starfighter has been part of the Star Wars lexicon since at least the 1980s, and there is no basis for any claim against Star Wars Starfighter." He continued: "LucasArts' game continues to enjoy critical and commercial success, and it furthers LucasArts' proud tradition of providing Star Wars fans and gamers alike with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Star Wars universe and play out roles, scenes, etc. inspired by events first depicted in the Star Wars films."
3DO's reason for the lawsuit is also because they have spent a lot of money in promoting their Star Fighter games. And since Star Fighter and Starfighter play similarly I can see where 3DO is going with this, but I don't think 3DO has much of a case.
