Mission: PS2 Mod Chip, complete!
Sony's Japanese Playstation 2 has been released on March 4th and to date there have been no word on any mod chips for the system. Some "backup" and import gamers were already getting worried because there wasn't a mod chip coming out for months after the release of the system. The main concern was: "Did Sony really secured the system well enough to avoid those pesky little chips?"
Many of you can be relieved now, because NCSX, an import retailer, has reported that they received a functional mod chip from an Asian partner. Since the system is only sold in Japan so far, the chip's current functionality is to allow the use of games that have been copied to a non-official PS2 CD or DVD disk, also known as "backups". NCSX reports that the chip is programmed with only 8 lines of simple code which works very similarly to the programmed code in the Playstation mod chips.
