Tony Hawk 3 on six platforms!
Today, Activision let out a huge press release that focused on the release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for six (count 'em six) different platforms. We've known that the Playstation 2 version was already in development, but what we didn't know was that Neversoft will also be busy developing a Playstation version. Yes! Tony Hawk will return on the PSOne later this year, and it just goes to show that maybe the PSOne isn't really dead.
"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 takes skateboarding to the next level through its innovative technical advancements and unique gameplay features that offer fast and furious competitions both on the ramp and in the street," states Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. "The title's inherently fun and intuitive game design will translate seamlessly across multiple platforms."
Tony Hawk 3 will feature the same roster of skaters as the previous Tony Hawk 2, with inclusion of MTV's "Jackass", Bam Margera. Just like the previous Tony Hawk 2, gamers will be able to create their own skater, and edit his/her physical features, change around hairstyles, slap on some tattoos or maybe even give him/her some cool shades. Tony Hawk 3 for PS2 will of course feature gorgeous visuals that will stun everyone who touches, and as for the PSOne version, expect slightly cleaner visuals, but more of the same. Activision also made notice of an evolving environment, filled with cars, pedestrians, natural disasters, traffic accidents and changing weather conditions, which really sounds like a whole bag of fun.
The stages that will be included in THPS3 are: Skater's Island in Middleton, Rhode Island, Rio, Los Angeles, Canada, Tokyo and Paris. Activision has also said that the multi-player modes will be deeper and far more exciting then they ever were, so that's something I'm looking forward to. Hopefully Activision signs on a few more skaters, just so deja vu doesn't strike every now and then.
Additionally Tony Hawk 3 will be released on the GameBoy Advance, GameBoy Color, and the XBox. No release date has been announced, but signs point to Winter 2001.
