Midway announces their line-up.

Today Midway Games made it loud and clear that they will be releasing games in full force for the year 2001. As part of the company's 3rd quarter earning results, Midway has revealed that a 5th Mortal Kombat game is indeed in development for the Playstation 2, as well as XBox. To stray slightly off the topic, I recently read that Ed Boon, creator of the MK franchise, was not involved in the latest MK game that Midway released, -Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. But as rumor has it, he will be returning to help develop Mortal Kombat 5. Of course none of this is official or was confirmed by Midway. Mortal Kombat 5 has been slapped an early 2002 sticker, meaning we may see it somewhere between January or late March of 2002.

Midway went on to reveal that before the year's end, they will have a total of 6 PS2 games released for the year 2001. Those games include NHL Hitz 2002 (Fall 2001), NFL Blitz 2002 (Winter 2001), Arctic Thunder (Winter 2001), Spy Hunter (August-September 2001) and CART Fury (May 23, 2001). Just yesterday Midway shipped their 3rd PS2 title, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. Of course as we can all tell, NHL Hitz is obviously the same formula as Blitz, instead it uses the sport of Hockey, should be interesting to see.

Currently Midway is in the process of developing 12 new Playstation 2 games all slated for a 2002 release. Hopefully at E3 Midway gives us a taste of their 2001 line-up.
